Wounded Warriors Family Adventures
The WWFA organization provides family adventures, which include transportation, lodging, activities, food and counseling sessions at no charge to disabled Warriors and their families.
Over 50,000 US soldiers endured physical injuries in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and an estimated 300,000+ suffer from Traumatic Brain Injuries or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The sacrifices of these Wounded Warriors extend beyond the listing of their injuries – career possibilities are often diminished and family relationships, fractured. This unique Wounded Warriors Family Adventures program strives to achieve two goals:
- Broaden the Warriors’ perceptions of what they can achieve; and
- Reconnect family members through enhanced communication and understanding.
Our signature event, the Family Ski Week, is a week-long program in Breckenridge, Colorado, which features one-on-one adaptive ski and snowboard lessons, group outings and family counseling for 10-12 Warriors and their families. In 2013, a second event was added called Family Mountain Experience. It is held in late summer and is a 4-5 day program featuring a river trip, challenge course, trail rides, and family bonding sessions.
“My life today is better for having attended this event than it ever was before. We truly learned a lot about ourselves, our family, and how to deal with life-altering situations. Thanks so much for changing our life for the better with such a wonderful week for families to learn about overcoming and helping.”
